I am trying to shoot water/dew drops. While I am learning to catch these little jewels, they are teaching me lessons. Life always seems to teach us something while we think we are doing something totally different.

This time of year is crazy busy for me...so I have taken refuge in my quiet time first thing in the morning and taking a bit of time before work to learn and practice catching some tiny liquid jewels...this is where patience comes into play. Not one of my strengths lately. Hope you enjoy some of my "therapy time". While I continue my lessons on patience.

Tis the season...I have managed to collect JOY. Surround myself with JOY, yet it is many times elusive. So, I chose to do a bit of study on the the word JOY.

Here on Christmas Eve...an appropriate time for a reflection by me...there's is Joy where I choose to find it...the little things I gloss over. .......

from the waking kiss on my cheek this morning by my Love and hearing "Merry Christmas Eve" to...

...the music that fills my soul...the family that surrounds me....

our daughter under our roof, our son living close by, my family near and far...

...my neighbors, my friends, my girlfriends who grow more precious every year....

... the many times this word pops up throughout this last week...trying to tell me something????

...sometimes, like the fragile glass ornament above, it gets broken and repeatedly fixed...I will not lose my JOY.

The Leaves, They Have All Gone

A week into December already. Seems I just did my last thankfulness blog yesterday.

Time is passing quickly, and it is true, the older you get, the faster it seems to accelerate.

I continue to be thankful for the days and all that they hold. From the smiles from strangers, to text from dear friends going through challenges, family also...and for a goodbye for now to our son in law who has gone off to serve our country.

I appreciate the little things much more these days. The help in the kitchen from my hubby to a truckful of artichokes gone to beautiful purple heads parked next to me.

And some time to sit here and listen to some music, edit a few photos and share some thoughts.

Goodbye November...I am Truly Thankful

I did it!

30 consecutive days of blogging my thanks

It has kinda been like a roller coaster ride, one day up, one down, some days just spun around all together and then when its done you want to do it again!

Crazy life

I am starting this in the morning and will finish tonight

My first thankfulness today is for all the families of those deployed and being deployed and those that are gone or in the process of leaving. I do not know the sacrifice first hand, but second and it is painful no matter how hard they "buck it up" and wear brave faces. Please know my thankfulness comes from the very depths of my soul for all of you.

Only 10 more days to go...

Next week Thanksgiving Day, then on to Christmas...I wish for days past when the kids were younger & at home, because that meant there was an actual break or holiday vacations. Now it seems we try to find time for the holiday season. So, my challenge is to find the thankfulness in the midst of everyday life with the holidays still happening, just in a different way.

The first reflection of thankfulness is the time that I will take to spend visiting with family and friends. I WILL TAKE the time ;)

Then another thing to be thankful for is the crisp cold rainy weather that usually accompanies this season. It is turning green, beautiful green with the dust and dirt rinsed off.

And thankful for the special coffees that makes my mouth smile.

Thankful for the memories of past and the ones being made.

And now I am thankful to be able to process, edit and play with some photographs.

Today in the 11th day of Thirty Days of Thanksgiving in the 11th month of 2011, I celebrate Veterans Day. My grandfather (top right) served our country after immigrating here from Switzerland. My father (in the rest of the pictures), Semper Fi joined the Marines. My son in law, Navy. My nephew (in law) Marines.

So proud of them, thankful for all who have served and are still serving.

Thursday the 10th of November 2011

An evening entry, which I have already determined is not the best time of day for me. Time for a shower and wind down.

I created the photo above to illustrate a simple thought process for me. In thinking of the theme of thankfulness, it is often an attitude or lack there of coloring my day.

On one hand I am thankful for all the colors, the abundance of life and details.

Then, on the other hand, I am thankful for the simplicity in the lack of vibrance that distracts from the important things only seen in black & white.

So I have learned to be thankful for both, as they each hold uniqueness.

And extremely thankful for someone who picked up the ball & ran with getting tickets to a concert I had dismissed as too much to deal with. It was a welcomed treat beyond my words.

And on that note...buono notte tutti!

California Photo Fest Day 2

California Photo Fest is quickly becoming a passing memory. Time truly does march on. But before another day goes by, I will slip in a few more shots from Day 2.

It started with a short hike, before daybreak, up Black Hill in Morro Bay for a sunrise shoot. Stunning view. But in my excitement, I neglected to reset my settings on my camera and missed some great light for the first dozen or so shots. Learning... more... all ... the time.

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I blog tonight. We lost someone in the MotoGP family today. Though I did not know him personally, it has hit rather hard. I took pictures of Marco at this years Moto Gp at Laguna Seca and his personality rang through. I suppose because we follow the race circuit, I feel we are part of the "family".

Last week I participated in California Photo Fest held here in San Luis Obispo, CA. I had a fantastic time with our daughter and saw friends and made new ones. The first day ended with a sunset shoot at Cayucos Pier. Here are some of my shots from the shoot. And it was 89 degrees when we left after dark! Could not have asked for a better end to the day.

This past weekend I participated in Scott Kelby's 4th Annual World Wide Photo Walk. I highly encourage anyone interested in photography to participate, no matter what level you are or what you shoot with. You will meet a great bunch of folks.

The one I chose was held in Morro Bay and was sponsored by Photo Morro Bay. We met at Tidelands Park at 9:30am on Saturday the 1st of October. Morro Bay was also celebrating the Harbor Festival, so I arrived early to make parking easier. The day was unexpectedly clear and warm, so the harbor was reflective and quiet. Perfect!

We had a great time, meeting up with fellow enthusiasts and making friends with new ones.

We had a thunderstorm roll through early Sunday morning and I am sure it razed havoc with many artist. So with camera in hand, stroll with me through the plaza.

We Will Never Forget

This day is coming to an end. I intended on posting this morning. But it has been a moody, somber day of remembrance to match the weather. I have been hearing stories, recounting of that day 10 years ago. The unraveling of the imagery that I was watching on TV while our son got ready for school. I could not fathom what was happening, even though I was watching it live on the west coast.

I was heartsick, devastated by the unfolding of the day. I will never forget, never.

My heart still goes to those that were affected firsthand, the gratitude to the first responders and those that risked their own lives and those gave it all to save those they could, and those that had no choice in the matter.

The following pictures were captured when we went to NY one year later. There are no words, just never forget.

An Afternoon of Grace

Fresh & Roasted

Sometimes it is not only necessary to slow down and enjoy the little pleasures of life, but honorable to do so. When my mom in law called to ask if we would like to take a short drive to Avila Beach to the Avila Barn... to go get some fresh roasted corn, we took the time.

Funny how difficult that is to do sometimes. But I am becoming more aware of the fragile balance of life as time continues as the sand in an hourglass. So, of course, camera in one hand and an ear of corn in the other, we took time.

But Fridays are my rush morning to clean the house and still get to work at a reasonable time, mid morning. Add to that I overslept a bit and I am already behind.

So I set the timer for 5 minutes, here goes:

Sit & be still - laundry started, list in my head to get the house cleaned & to work by 10.

Words of encouragement in the morning that fill me, while I choose to be still.

The morning's sounds start to multiply.

The birds, near in the front yard, window open and at the neighbors trees - the orioles announce their arrival at the feeder.

Be still - I grabbed stillness at lunch yesterday & sat on the back steps at work. The sun's warmth & the air's coolness on my skin....

and the the 5 minute timer went off, and I thought I would have a hard time filling 5 minutes!

...prompted me to rest my head in my hands, close my eyes & pray...for others. I slipped in & out of a long awaited peace-refreshed & renewed to continue.

Be still - not always easy - but always worth it.

a Side Trip to Remember Memorial Day

Memorial Day has come & gone.

But we will never forget those that have paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Our heartfelt thanks go to them and their families.

I want to share with you our Memorial Day service that we attended. I searched for a local tribute, and and there were many in our county. We chose Santa Margarita for a number of reasons, mostly because... not far, small community and local atmosphere.

They held their service at the local Santa Margarita cemetery located 1 mile east on Hwy 58, one of our favorite motorcycle roads, so it was an easy decision.

There was a fly over planned over different services by some WWII planes from the Estrella War Bird Museum in Paso Robles, CA. And they always thrill me....so off we went.

Here are a few shots to share of this great day.

Thank you for your service men & women of our military. And to the local Scout Troop 123.

Girls Trip...Phase 1 to Orlando

Last year, when I found out that our mom's cousin and husband were coming to the states from their home in Switzerland for a visit with their son and his family, I asked mom if she would like to go out east for a visit. With the realization, that this could very well be the last trip for them, and the last time to possibly see each other, we made plans. I figured, with 3 sisters, at least one of us could accompany her on the journey. She mentioned that she would also like to take the opportunity to visit with a dear friend who moved to South Carolina as well.

So as things often do, a trip was planned and no one wanted to be left out. It turned into a mother/daughters trip, and a wonderful memory making time.

We started out in Orlando after connecting flights converged us in Houston. Our cousins, 2nd, 3rd...??? were vacationing there and we decided to connect there for 3 days. We rented a condo, each princess wanted their own bed and we ended up with a condo bigger than my home! On the 15th floor, across from the relatives in another building, so much so that we could wave across to each other!!

We spent 2 nights sharing dinner around a table for 12. We are so blessed with family!

We all went to Epcot Center and merged together off & on throughout the day. The weather cooperated nicely for us California Coastal Girls.

Even the manhole covers had Mickey on them...good eye, sis!

It was difficult to say goodbye...til we meet again...

Then it was off to Beaufort, SC...

I have gone through an older photo album to get some family pictures and to only get a few is really difficult. But the great thing is, we have so many great memories as a family...you only have to go through the pictures to remember just how blessed we are, I am.

Those that know me, know I had infertility issues and it took years to deal with. More than I will go into. The results speak for themselves. We were blessed with a daughter and then through adoption, blessed with a son.

There is also a prayer for peace for those that have lost their mothers, or lost their children, those trying to become mothers and all the other challenges that come with being a mother. We have had much rain this season. Good for the land, good for our water table. So instead of trying to replicate dew drops on flowers indoors, I grabbed the opportunity this morning as the sun spread across the yard. So in between breakfast and laundry, this is what I found in my yard.

This has been a good day. It started with shooting some flowers with my macro lens and ended with editing and sharing. A friend shared different varieties of daffodils from his and his wife's garden. The weather here was incredible on Saturday and I was feeling the need to get out and take in my local scenery and breathe the salt air. I had learned of Cayucos Sea Glass Festival through Face Book and one of my favorite local stops the Brown Butter Cookie Company. Of course I bought some...they are on their way, Ang ;).

We had a choice of: pumpernickel pretzels, banana bread, apples, bananas & kiwi. Each one was great...but a bite size piece of banana bread with a dollop of Nutella and a piece of banana...good combination.

But so was the pretzel....and the banana...you get the idea.

This flower is named "Love in a Mist". A beautiful flower that a friend found and planted in our yard at the office. She nurtures it and it returns each year. It is a delicate, intricate flower in detail.

I am excited to share with you that I was accepted into a local program that displays artwork around town of our local artist.

My daughter. Angela, was contacted a year ago to particpate and I was her hands while she was out of the country. So I got to know the program and I inquired about slipping in if a spot became open. I was notified a week ago that I now have a spot and I am currently up at
Saldo/Stolberg Law Offices in San Luis Obispo. And Angela is in with City Hall downtown.

Anaheim Start of 2011 SX Season

A week ago it started....

Every year at this time, the Supercross Season opens to a huge mass of fans, my husband being the number 1. So we always make sure we attend the opener in Anaheim, as we have been doing for more years than I can remember. It is always a great time to be with other fans of the sport, though the change through the years is amazing, as it is with everything.

This year anticipates to be widely followed with all the top riders back on the their rides for the season.

Frozen Drops

A quick blog of some pictures I snapped before work yesterday. We had clear skies which brings cold frosty mornings. I couldn't resist grabbing the macro and tripod to see if I could find some treasures hanging on the bare Maple trees. The sun popped up and before I was done shooting, the drops were thawing out and starting to drip. Through the lens I could actually see bubbles inside the ice moving around. Amazing things happen in the macro world.

A Walk Around Mom's Backyard

We had the privilege of welcoming home our daughter and son in law from a tour of duty that had them living over seas for 4 years. We are finally all back together in the same time zone. They are in the process of relocating and reconnecting with family and friends.

I took a quick trip around my mom's backyard, while everyone was busy with other things. Must shoot something!! Here is a quick trip around the yard. And yes.....I am thrilled they are back.

Farewell to Autumn

Big sigh.....November is over. I consider this a transition month. It turned from fall to winter, yes, even here on the Central Coast of CA, our daughter & son in law are in their journey back to the states after 4 years overseas with him in the Navy, life seems to transition at the same time, from warm long days, to the cold short ones. As with everything, there truly is a season. I have missed the last two days of blogging my blessings...not that there has not been any, the days just seem to run short. As the year comes to an end, my life gets a bit fuller in a number of ways. And I think that I really need to continue this throughout the year to keep me focused on what is truly important and not myself. So this is the last for this month, but even when I am not counting it publicly, I will stop and remind myself of that which I am very thankful for. Here goes...

Today I am thankful for...
1) making it through this day, this month, to be here
2) the beauty that is literally around me, I just have to look
3) those that continue to accept me, just as I am
4) being able to hang & display my work at a local cafe
5) a creative outlet

It's a Blue Bird Day

I find it hard to believe that I have hit the mid way point in the month. It has been a bit of a challenge to blog every day. Not that I don't have many things to be thankful for, but I am finding that I have to give it more thought than I realized. It seems very easy to slip into the mundane every day life and not see what is right in front of us that is unique and special.
There are so many things going on with those around me, I find it difficult to focus on just one thing. I am rambling. So on with today's list of thanks.

2) ceiling fans at night ;)
3) God's reminder that I am a daughter of the King
4) renewed life, spiritually & physically
5) clear morning skies & watching the sunrise
