2nd half of our DPA workshop in SF

It has been 2 weeks now since our workshop with Digital Photo Academy In the great city of SF.  More shots of wandering around the Embarcadero area of SF from Pier 39 to Hyde St. and back.  We were at this point going to shoot inside Musee Mechanique, and once again, we were all in the same place and getting very different pics.  It has been fun and informative to compare and critique our results.

 We then ventured out to the sidewalks which were now teeming with tourists, go figure, in SF, on a Saturday!  and a 3 day weekend!!  So glad we met early.

I want you to look down the road, up the hill.  This is Hyde St. where the cable cars go up.  It is the middle of the day, clear, but hazy, not good for a great shot but still able to compare lenses, and I put a 100mm-400mm White Lens, oh baby, on my camera.....

Time to walk back to Pier 39 for a bite to eat and review what we have done.  Josh pointed out one of the existing signs still over the Cannery Entrance.

Swan Oyster Depot

We, I, wanted to try Oysters for the first time and had read an article saying that the Swan Oyster Depot in SF was one of the best on the West Coast and also listed as one of the best in the world, according to the author.  So with the address plugged into the gps, and many rounding of the blocks in the atttempt at locating a parking space, we found them and .....they were CLOSED!!  They close at 5:30pm and it was after 6!  Oh well, cleanup time, and Indian food right around the corner made for the end of a great day.

I have had the privilege of having our daughter home for almost 6 weeks now and we have been able to do many wonderful things together.  Though the time is never long enough or what you expected, if honest with yourself, it has been full and fulfilling.

She is also a fellow photographer and I continue to learn from her enthusiasm.  She shares her pictures often on her blog and spends way more time devoting to this passion than I can possibly give at this point in time.  Yet, I love seeing her expound her craft and I get to join in.

So I will make a stab at keeping up my blog as well.

And here are some of my photos from the Digital Photo Academy workshop  we took with our instructor, Josh Anon, 

We arrived early at Pier 39 to avoid the crowds that were sure to show up later.  Everything was fresh from showers and being washed down, so we looked around for interesting reflections.

Store windows had some fun things.

We walked out to look at the water and the sea lions and I remembered that I had read an article in the past month about them vacating this area and how over 2000 showed up off the coast of Oregon!!  This used to be packed with them.

Josh had us try our hand at zoom blurs, many attempts, need many more, but I like the  effect.  Now to work on keeping the center crisp.

Actually, shooting the same scenes, objects with other gifted photographers was fun and challenging.  We were shooting the same things, but seeing them differently.  And I must say, that I like Angela's composition on this one better.

Nothing great about the angle, just yummy bread, hard not to reach in and grab a fresh loaf!

So that is that for now, many more pictures...but back to work tomorrow, my cold and time to "lay around" will have to wait for another time...until then....

A New Year, A new Decade

A week into January of 2010. A new Year and a new decade.

What I always heard from the "older" generation, which I now seem to have joined has proven to be true.

Just wanted to take a minute to update.

The days are warm, the sunrises and sunsets incredible. Truly blessed to live where we do.

But the age old problem to deal with, besides typing legible words, is my management of not only time, but pictures, storage, editing, sharing, and on the list goes.

I am far too eager to play with all the networking and not so much with staying organized.

So for now, I am going to slip in some of my photos of things I enjoy and reminesce about.

Only 5! :O days until Christmas,  Oh no I had better get things wrapped up, literally!

But in the meantime, have been actually enjoying the busy season and doing fun things.  Snapping a few pictures here and there, but not really having the time to do anything with them, but I suppose that will come.

Less than 2 weeks to Christmas, Oh My!!!

My day so far is spent getting ready for our Christmas Company BBQ.  So many little things to remember.  There will be families coming so I spent some time at Walmart hunting for little things to make some gift packs for the kids.  Was fun!  And probably bought too much, but can you really do that?

Hopefully, well, ready or not, it will come together and it will look fabulous and we will have great food, brought and shared by everyone coming and a good time, in spite of rainy weather.  Thanks to a good neighbor I am well equipped with tables, chairs and a tabletop heater.  The EZ Up will be assembled for the BBQ to stay dry.

Christmas DVD's are available to occupy the kids and adults.

The house is decorated, even made some homemade carmels, my photog efforts are assigned to the wings for now, between working and getting ready for the holidays.

I hope for anyone taking time to read my ramblings will take a moment to breathe, find peace in the moment and feel blessed.

My thoughts and prayers are with anyone who is hurting from circumstances, losses and our troops and their families, especially those who are separated due to duty to their country.  Being a military brat and raised with a father who dedicated his life to his country, I appreciate all the more the sacrifice of the whole family and the ones left in control in their absence.

If I don't get back here soon, Please have a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.
